Born and raised in Colorado City, Texas, Sam Houston attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning a B.B.A. in International Business. He attended law school at Baylor University, graduating in two and a half years.
Mr. Houston began his legal career in the litigation section at Andrews & Kurth law firm in Houston, Texas. He left the firm in 1992 with several litigators and joined Cruse, Scott, Henderson & Allen, where he was named partner in 1993. In 2010, the firm changed its name to Shepherd, Scott, Clawater & Houston, which later became Scott, Clawater & Houston. A former co-managing partner of the firm, Mr. Houston has been an attorney for over 25 years. He is a general litigator with a focus on professional malpractice, commercial disputes, and administrative licensing proceedings, and he is also a trained mediator.
Mr. Houston became board-certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Personal Injury Trial Law in 1995 and has recertified every five years. He is board certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in Civil Trial Advocacy and an associate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and he has earned the highest rating in legal ability and ethical standards from Martindale Hubbell. He has been recognized as one of Houston’s “Top Lawyers” by H Houston magazine and listed as a “Super Lawyer” in Texas Monthly every year since 2005.
Mr. Houston is licensed to practice in Texas state and the United States District Courts in the Southern, Northern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas and in the United States Supreme Court. He has tried dozens of cases and has argued in the Courts of Appeals and in the Supreme Court of Texas.
Mr. Houston has been active in community affairs for many years, serving as a volunteer for the Center for Pursuit and coaching the Center’s softball team as well as its Special Olympics team. He is married to Jantha Houston, also an attorney, and they are parents of two children.
